This qualification reflects the role of individuals working as skilled operators in civil construction, who apply a broad range of skills in varied work contexts, using some discretion and judgement and relevant theoretical knowledge. The individual may provide theoretical advice and support a team.

The qualification applies to specialist occupations in bituminous surfacing, bridge construction and maintenance, pipe laying, road construction and maintenance, road marking, tunnel construction, timber bridge construction and maintenance, traffic management and general civil construction occupations.

Entry requirements

The course does not have entry requirements can be accessed by direct entry.

However, True Blue Training has specific enrolment criteria for this course. Prospective students must:

  • Be a minimum age of 18 years or older at the time of enrolment. Parental consent is required for students under the age of 18 years.
  • Complete a language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) test prior to enrolment
  • Create a Unique Student Identifier (USI) and provide it to True Blue Training upon enrolment. To obtain a USI visit: www.usi.gov.au
  • Comply with True Blue Training policies and procedures as outline on the website and Student Handbook
Delivery Mode & Assessment Method

The course is delivered using a blended teaching/learning approach. This gives the student flexibility in learning and creates a more engaging experience. The student will be supported by qualified trainers and assessors.

Assessments

To satisfy the training package and unit of competency requirements, True Blue Training must ensure a range of evidence is collected using different assessment tools to assess the student’s competencies.

Assessment methods may include:

  • Knowledge and theoretical based assessment (i.e. questions and answers)
  • Case studies
  • Project based learning
  • Practical activities and observations
  • Third-party feedback
  • Portfolios
  • Work samples
Units of competency

To successfully achieve RII30920 Certificate III in Civil Construction, training package rules must be met accordingly.

Specialisations

The qualification has core and elective units of competency that cover the skills for the following eight (8) specialist and one (1) general civil construction specialisations:

  • Specialisation 1 – Bituminous Surfacing
  • Specialisation 2 – Bridge Construction and Maintenance
  • Specialisation 3 – Pipe Laying
  • Specialisation 4 – Road Construction and Maintenance
  • Specialisation 5 – Road Marking
  • Specialisation 6 – Tunnel Construction
  • Specialisation 7 – Timber Bridge Construction and Maintenance
  • Specialisation 8 – Traffic Management
  • Specialisation 9 – Civil Construction General

The core and elective unit requirements of one (1) specialisation must be met for this qualification to be awarded.

All elective units selected for this qualification must reflect current occupational and learning outcomes of this AQF qualification level.

RPL & Credit Transfer

RPL and Credit Transfer is available to all students. True Blue Training recognises Australian Qualification Framework (AQF) qualifications and statement of attainment issued by other training providers upon verification with the issuing RTO.
